Arctic Tern

Sterna paradisaea  Arktiese Sterretjie  Küstenseeschwalbe

Arctic Tern

It may not look like much, but this little bird has an incredible story to tell: it has the longest migratory route of any bird species in the world, breeding in the Arctic or at least the far Northern Hemisphere and then migrating every year all the way down to the Antarctic! What makes this particular individual even more interesting is that it was only born about 5 or 6 months ago and is on its first ever long haul flight.
