Morgenster is one part of the original Vergelegen, Governor Willem Adriaan van
der Stel's farm. Morgenster is an exceptional Cape Dutch house, built in an
H-form, with six near perfect gables, with the year 1786 moulded on the front
gable. The house has such perfect proportions, that Sir Herbert Baker, the
famous architect, was moved to declare it the most beautiful architecture in
the world. The end gables where designed with the greater detail that is
generally reserved for main gables. A ship's bell dated 1714 is in the
slave-bell-tower in front of the house.
