In 1830, Conrad Fick built the homestead as it is today. It was then known as
Schoongezicht, but this name caused much confusion, with the other
Schoongezicht farm at the foot of Simonsberg, which then belonged to John X.
Merriman. At about 1920, the owner Colonel Harry Wicht, sold the farm to a rich
widow, Mrs. English, whose maiden name was Devenish and whose brother had long
worked as a vintner in the Lanzerac village in France. The present owner is
business man, Mr. Christo Wiese. Lanzerac has become one of the most famous
hotels in the Republique.
