She received her BDS and LDS.RCS in 1985 and MA in Dental
Public Health (MDPH) at the University of London and the Diploma in Dental
Public Health (DDPH) in 1994 from the Royal College of Surgeons of England,
followed by her specialist MChD degree in Community Dentistry in 1999. Her PhD thesis documents the cranio-facial, oral and dental
features of children with the fetal alcohol syndrome.
Sudeshni Naidoo is a Professor and Specialist at the Department of Community
Dentistry, Faculty of Health Sciences at Stellenbosch University, having
previously held the post of Principal Dentist for the Kwazulu Natal Provincial
Administration, Researcher at the Medical Research Council in Tygerberg and
Senior Registrar in Community Dentistry. Her main
focus of research is on Infectious Diseases and Infection Control, with
particular reference to HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis and TB, and a specific focus on the
disadvantaged with regard to provision of care, Oral Health Quality of Life,
and Child Abuse. She has written HIV/AIDS policies for the dental faculties and
a Hepatitis B vaccination policy for the Provincial Administration of the
Western Cape, published and presented on Child Abuse, Cross infection, HIV/AIDS
and Hepatitis.
She is presently President of the Western Cape Branch and National Vice
President of the South African Dental Association.
Sue is happily married to a chef who owns the Aubergine restaurant. They
have no children but a very naughty cat called Truffles.
