Gerrit van Wyk was born on 12 March 1945 at Sutherland and grew up on a farm in the district of Sutherland in the Great Karoo.
He studied Forestry at Stellenbosch University (1967 BSc, 1969 BSc Hons)
and, in 1975, obtained a PhD at North Carolina State University, USA, with the
thesis: Early growth results in a diallel progeny test of Eucalyptus grandis W. Hill ex

Gerrit van Wyk specialises in Forest Genetics and Research Management.
He is married to Christine and they have 2 daughters, Tania and Senast and a son, Gerrit. They have moved to Natal where they live happily at Hillcrest.
