Was Professor of Missiology at the University of Stellenbosch, 1963-1974 and Dean of the Theological Faculty
Willem Jacobus (Willie) Van der Merwe was born on 31 August 1906.
He studied at the University of Stellenbosch and at the Hartford Seminary in
the USA (PhD 1934). He worked for 24 years as a NGK missionary in Masjonaland,
(then) Southern Rhodesia, where he also was head of the Morgenster school. He
joined the University of Stellenbosch in 1959, was professor of Missiology from
1963 and dean of the theological faculty. After his retirement in 1974 he
served for four years as rector and part time lecturer of the theological
school Orumana in Namibia. He also was part time lecturing at the University of
Western Cape and at the Huguenot College in Wellington.
