Mariénne Uys Musician, photographer and author of non-fiction books Mariénne Uys matriculated in 1952 at the Hoërskool in Barrydale, Cape with distinction in languages. She began her studies at Stellenbosch University in 1953, where she received a BA in Drama, Music and Speech training in 1956. She studied piano and singing at Unisa (UOLM in piano and in singing) and worked as music teacher and organist in Heidelberg. In 1959 she married a farmer, Jan Uys, in Heidelberg. From 1973 Mariénne Uys gave private tuition in music. A year later she resumed her studies at Stellenbosch University (MA in Philosophy, 1974) where she also took classes on photography. From 1974 she worked as a freelance writer of photo articles for various magazines. 1980 : BA Honns (cum laude) in Philosophy, Unisa. Mariénne left for Europe to study garden design and to photograph gardens. She designed gardens and managed a farm (Jersey cows) for 12 years. 1989: D Litt et Phil at Unisa (Title of thesis: Depersonalisasie in die Geneeskunde ) Mariénne Uys lives in Greenways, Strand since 1998.
