Leon Strydom 1944 - 2021 Poet and Author of poetry books and literary publications Professor of Afrikaans literature at the University of the Orange Free State Leon Strydom was born on 27 February 1944 in George. He studied at Stellenbosch University and obtained a MA in Afrikaans-Nederlands with a thesis on Louis Leipoldt, Oor die slampamperliedjies van Leipoldt, in 1969. The next two years he lectured in Afrikaans and Dutch at Stellenbosch. He continued his studies at the Rijksuniversiteit in Utrecht, where he obtained a D Litt in 1973.
