Rena Schüler

Author of eight youth and four children's books

Rena Schüler, née Botha, was born on 25 November 1922 on a farm near George. She matriculated from Hoërskool Outeniqua in George. She studied at Stellenbosch University (BA, cum laude, 1944 and MA in Anthropology, 1954). In 1946 she started to work for Die Transvaler and soon afterwards took a position as an assistant Ethnologist for the government. Rena married Gerd Schüler in 1948, who was later professor of Anthropology at Stellenbosch University. They lived in Stellenbosch and had two daughters, Astrid and Ulla.
Rena Schüler published many articles, poems and short stories in different magazines.

Hobbies: Reading, travelling, gardening

Award: Die Somervakansie wat te lank was won the Silver Sanlam Prize of the year 2000.
