Christian Frans Gerhardus Gunter was born on 11 June, 1906, on a farm near Swellendam. He attended school at Hoër Seunskool Riversdal and studied Philosophy at Stellenbosch University (MA, M Ed, D Ed and D phil).
C F G Gunter was professor of Philosophy at the Department of Education, Stellenbosch University, until 1971. He died on 4 February 1972.
