Emeritus Professor at the Department of African Languages at Stellenbosch University
Jacobus Albertus du Plessis was born on 4 July 1937.
He studied at the Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education (BA,
1958 , BA Honours 1959, MA (African Languages), 1962) and at the University of
Pretoria (D.Litt. (African Languages),1966).
1960 - 67 - Lecturer at the Department of African Languages of the
Potchefstroom University for CHE, Potchefstroom.
1968 - 70 - Senior Lecturer at the Department of African Languages of the
University of the Free State, Bloemfontein.
1971 - 1998 - Professor at the Department of African Languages of the
Stellenbosch University, Stellenbosch
1999 - Emeritus professor, SU
