One of the greatest South African jurists
Johannes Christiaan de Wet was born on 13. 10. 1912 in Zastron. He attended
school in Maclear and studied at Stellenbosch University (BA, cum laude, 1933,
LLB, cum laude and LLD, 1938) and obtained a LLD from the University of Leiden.
1936: Joined Stellenbosch University as Senior Lecturer
1942 -1972: Professor at the Faculty of Law, SU
He taught Roman law and comparative law at Cape Town University from 1976 to 1981.Awards and honours:
