Johanna de Villiers, née du Plessis, started her career as editor of Stellenbosch's Eikestadnuus. After several years in London, she was women's editor at Landbouweekblad and joined afterwards Sarie Marais for seven years, where she served as co-editor.

Johanna de Villiers is married to the journalist and former editor of Die Burger, Dirk de Villiers, and lives in Keurboomsrivier.
