Andries Cillies died on 3 December 2013 in his home in Durbanville.

Although retired, Andries Cilliers continued writing and also worked as a legal consultant. In the last years of his life he brought up to date the books, Law of Costs (about 500 pages) once every six months and Civil Practice
of the Supreme Court and Appellate Division (just under 2000 pages, 2 volumes, with co-author HC Nel) once a year, this time as an e-book. He has completed his fundamental
work Human Rights and Human Duties.
